How are you going? How are we in mid-March already 😳😳😳
And how am I 60?! Ha! Birthdays always make me reflective, and SO much has happened this last 12 months... my life is quite unrecognisable to the one I was living last year!
Change - it's guaranteed in life huh? But I didn't ever expect to be running Smitten solo! I couldn't do it without the incredible support of Alice, Tara and Les doing the day-to-day work in Hobart- such woman power. Also
my gorgeous daughters- Holly and Brooke, such great supports, and my family and friends around the nation. All very fitting in light of International Women's Day last week...
And now managing Carl's work that I've never done before, eek ... and living in Melbourne part- time... all a steep learning curve. But apparently the world keeps turning and the seasons come and go... and here comes Autumn...
The Autumn Equinox is this Friday, March 20, the point of seasonal equilibrium with days and nights being exactly 12 hours long each.
Love the sound of some equilibrium in every way 😉 😉
And with all this change I'm learning the only way is to accept, take deep breaths, and surrender... and listen a lot to Sarah Blondin meditations. All other suggestions welcome!
So, yay for AUTUMN! 🍁 🍂 IT'S SMITTEN SEASON!
Update on our Carl: he is doing ok, but unfortunately, he currently has a chest infection. He is still in hospital in Melbourne, but we are hoping he may be out in the next few weeks/months. Thank you for all of your messages, they are lovely to receive.
Remember - Smitten is ALWAYS ethically made in Australia from a biodegradable and renewable fiber, Australian grown superfine merino wool.
What underpins our business hasn't changed - and each year we try to improve the sustainability ecosystem of Smitten. We're transparent about our supply chain; you know that WE know exactly who cuts and sews your Smitten. We are careful to balance business growth with environmental care. We use compostable mailers and constantly minimize use of plastic in the office and boutique.
As you already know, we are slowly reducing the amount of Smitten we produce, and moving toward making more Smitten made-to-order, to further minimise waste. We believe this is the next step toward environmental responsibility as a slow fashion brand. We will always have our best sellers in stock, but some garments will be made just for you. In this way the business will be more considered and more sustainable. Read more about Smitten Make for Me.
By buying unique and made-to-order, we get to create our own personal style with our own colour palette. It's so much better than following fast fashion’s social-media driven micro-trends. You do you!! Individual style is always in fashion!
Another important part of our sustainability drive has been introducing pre-loved Smitten. You send us the Smitten you no longer wear, receive Smitten credit, and we re-sell your item. Everyone is happy and we keep the circularity of fashion going. Smitten being re-homed and re-loved 🥰 🥰

That's all from me for now.
I'm off to find that elusive equilibrium!
Thanks as always for being Smitten, for buying AUSTRALIAN MADE, for supporting local - it really makes a big difference. Especially now - to my family, to our business and to our local economy.
Look after yourself and enjoy the change of season...
Love from Nic, Carl and all the Smitten team
xx
