Hello Smitten Community,
September has been an unimaginable month for our family. I'm not sure where to start, as our lives have been completely shattered in the last two weeks.
Carl had a horrific mountain bike accident and was in ICU in Hobart before being flown to Austin Hospital in Melbourne. He has a severe spinal injury and is currently on a ventilator and unable to move. However, we are so fortunate that he has no brain injury - he has woken from his coma, and he's still my fabulous Carl, smiling and optimistic. He has so much resilience.
Our life is basically unrecognisable at the moment. I'm living in an apartment near the hospital with our three big kids, spending hours by Carl's bedside. The kids are devoted to being with their dad and showering him with love. But we are so grateful he is alive. We have a long road ahead of recovery and adjustment to this new landscape. And we can do it.
We are so appreciative of our kind and supportive community.
All Carl wants is for Smitten to keep thriving while he is in rehabilitation for the next 6-12 months. My amazing Smitten team are running the business back in Hobart - huge thanks to Alice, Tara, Grace, Lesley and Jen. All of you are magnificent.
We are in such shock; our life has been turned upside down - and yet I can see that life goes on. So strange.
The Spring Range is still coming through - business as usual (sort of...).
Thank you so much for supporting our family business. It really means everything at the moment.
Award News: Earlier this month, we were honoured to win the Clean + Conscious Sustainability + Social Impact Awards 2025 Ethical Production award. Every Smitten Merino piece is sewn locally by a small family-run factory we have partnered with for over 16 years, ensuring safe working conditions, fair pay and long-term respect for makers.
Warmly,
Nic, Carl and The Smitten Team
