Superfine Merino Wool Unisex Dressing Gown

The colour is nice and it is well constructed but the sizing runs small. I purchased teal green 2XL (18-20) and I’m seriously glad I did. My measurement size is L (14-16) but I’d read about shrinkage and because it’s a dressing gown I thought a relaxed fit with extra wrap could only be a good thing. The size is actually what I would expect for a 14-16 and you wouldn’t want any less wrap overlap.

I love my dressing gown, it is warm and has (or had) a lovely drape. But I’d advise people not to machine wash if you can possibly avoid it. I did so (using the correct machine settings and wool detergent) and it shrank. When I contacted Smitten Merino they told me that some machines, even if you choose the correct settings, can auto-heat water internally during the cycle, and some machines wash on one RPM but rinse on another. Had I known this I definitely wouldn’t have put it through the machine. They’ve since updated the care instructions on the website to make this clear. To be safe I’d suggest people spot clean only unless you are absolutely sure how your machine actually runs. I still wear my dressing gown but sadly it will never be like it was.

This is warm and comfortable, and the Storm Teal colour is beautiful. Everything I've ordered (I think this is my 4th or 5th order - Smitten is gradually taking over my winter wardrobe) has been excellent quality, arrived quickly and questions about sizes are always answered quickly, too. I don't expect style from a dressing gown but this one manages :) I'd written an earlier review and forgotten to put 5 stars on, sorry if it shows up twice.

I purchase the deep sea green. The colour is gorgeous and I love that it is warm without the sweat and static electricity of polyester gowns.
